ISS Scouts have been tracking prospects eligible for the NHL Draft for years (typically from the age of fourteen), so they have unique knowledge of strengths, weaknesses and probabilities for success at the NHL level. ISS Hockey scouts identify prospects that have been chosen by the Winnipeg Jets in past drafts and provide a brief summary of how these drafted players will influence the team:

Kyle Connor (ISS Ranked #13 in 2015, Overall drafted #17 in 2015 NHL Draft) – In recent drafts the Winnipeg scouting staff have been eyeing skill and speed, Connor brings both of those with a relentless two-way mindset. The University of Michigan center has developed incredibly well over the past three seasons in the USHL. The outlook of a Scheifele-Connor one-two punch down the middle has the future in Winnipeg looking promising.

Nikolaj Ehlers (ISS Ranked #11 in 2014, Overall drafted #9 in 2014 NHL Draft) – There is no doubt Ehlers is the most elite prospect in the Jets system and he is ready to make that jump to the NHL ranks after two extremely impressive and dominating seasons in the QMJHL. The high energy, elusive Ehlers possesses dynamic offensive talent and is a dangerous threat whenever he has the puck on his stick, keeps the opposition on their heels.

Josh Morrissey (ISS Ranked #21 in 2013, Overall drafted #13 in 2013 NHL Draft) – Morrissey leads the Jets defensive prospects in terms of upside for the next level and skill-set. He displays tremendous instincts offensively and is a flawless skater up ice. In terms of development, Morrissey will be best suited in the AHL next season where he can take that next step in harnessing his offensive game at the pro level. The future pairing of Trouba – Morrissey is definitely an intriguing one.

Jansen Harkins (ISS Ranked #25 in 2015, Overall drafted #47 in 2015 NHL Draft) – Although it’s early to consider Harkins a steal at 47th overall, there is no doubt in ISS scouts minds that this will be an extremely valuable pick as we considered Jansen a 1st round talent. The Prince George Cougars center displayed dominance this past season in the WHL and consistency with Canada at the U18s. He is a coach’s dream player who puts it all out there on both sides of the puck. Not only does he bring outstanding character and leadership but he has offensive intelligence and reads the game very well.

“It is evident that the Jets hold skill and speed in high regards and aren’t afraid to take a chance on a smaller forward if they possess those traits”, says ISS Hockey Director of Scouting Dennis MacInnis. “Winnipeg is beginning to put the pieces together for an impressive future as they continue to add gifted players in all positions with the likes of Ehlers, Lemieux, Armia, Petan, De Leo and Morrisey coming through the system. They are still a few pieces away in the rebuilding process but if the Jets staff continues to search for skill there is no doubt they will be there sooner than later.”
