ISS Hockey released ISS Top 30 for January, rankings of top prospects for the 2016 NHL Draft on Wednesday, January 6th, 2016. The following is a showcase of rising and falling prospects within January’s release:
Patrik Laine (Tappara, FinE)
Part of Finland’s dynamic top line that helped produce 2nd WJC Gold medal since 2014. Pure sniper with outstanding puck protection ability. Always dangerous with puck on his stick and very hard to defend against.
German Rubtsov (Russia MHL 98, RusJr)
Smart two way center with size. Rubtsov was outstanding at World Jr A Challenge. He took control of Semi final game against more experienced USHL Selects team. Has smarts, skills and power. He can use any of them to impact the game at any time.
Samual Girard (Shawinigan, QMJHL)
Gifted offensive defenseman with a very high ceiling. Yes is size could be a factor at the next level on battles on the wall and in front of the net. He could be a very good QB on the PP at the next level. Adding 15/20 pounds should help him.
Ilya Karpukhin (Chelyabinsk, RusJr)
Good size and strength defender. Strong skater with decent mobility. Handle the puck well but lacks high end offensive skills. Plays a mistake free physical game. Good match up potential. Hard to play against. NHL draft prospect.
Marco Miranda (Zurich GCK, SuiJA)
He can make plays with soft hands and good OHS. Responsible defensively. Outstanding on PK unit taken away shooting lanes and blocking shots. Player of interest for the CHL Import draft and the NHL draft.
Mikhail Belyaev (Yaroslavl, RusJr)
Lacks overall consistency and struggles to find his groove at times on offence.
Kristian Reichel (Litvinov, CzeE)
Skating stride is strong with power to accelerate quickly. Shows flashes of potential to make plays and generate offence at top speed. Needs to get stronger but has tools to play pro at some level.
Giavani Smith (Guelph, OHL)
Frustrating player to scout. Effective when he’s involved. Hard to find when he floats. Energy player with decent size and strength. Awkward skating stride with one speed.
