(Waterloo, ON) International Scouting Services (ISS Hockey) is pleased to announce that we have confirmed Waterloo University Men’s Hockey Assistant Coach and former NHLer, Brett MacLean as a Guest Speaker and On-Ice Instructor for the Waterloo Scouting Combine.
BRETT MACLEAN – Former Phoenix Coyote, Winnipeg Jet and current Waterloo University Assistant Coach, Brett MacLean will be one of the guest speakers at the combine on Sunday, June 7th.
MacLean, a native of Port Elgin, Ontario, was selected in the first round, 11th overall by the Erie Otters in the 2004 OHL Priority Selection Draft. Brett spent the following seasons with the Otters before being traded to the Oshawa Generals where he joined a line with John Tavares.
Brett exploded offensively the next season with the Gens as he posted a 100-point season, a season which was capped off by being selected 32nd overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Phoenix Coyotes.
His success offensively continued into the following seasons as he went on to lead the Ontario Hockey League in goals with 61 in 2007-2008. Maclean spent the next couple seasons with the Coyotes’ American League affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage.
After posting four consecutive 20+ goal seasons in the AHL and playing a part-time role with the big clubs, Brett was on-route to earning a full-time position in the NHL. Unfortunately, in the summer of 2012, Brett suffered a cardiac emergency during an on-ice session. As a result he now has an implantable cardiac defibrillator and was forced to retire from the game.
“We are ecstatic to have Brett attend the combine in Waterloo and speak with the player,” said ISS Director of Scouting, Dennis MacInnis, “The players and parents attending the combine are going to learn a great deal from Brett about his journey and his first-hand experience preparing for each level in the game.”
MacLean, now an Assistant Coach with the University of Waterloo Men’s Varsity Hockey team will also be assisting in the on-ice skill session at the combine.
Brett will be speaking shortly after the lunch session that is scheduled to end at 1:30 PM.
